Sock progress

I started the socks again. First I tried the Sensual Socks from the current issue of Interweave Knits, the socks were too small. So, now I am trying wendy's pattern again. This time with needles size 1. This is how much I got. I was going to decrease 4 stitches but now that my gauge is correct I wonder if I should stick to the pattern??? Mmmm what to do?

This project is killing me. It requires extenuating attention in order not to make a mistake. I must say that I am not enjoying this part at all. I am only knitting a couple of rows a day. I actually noticed a mistake again but since it can barely be seeing I am not ripping off! I can't wait to start something else. I don't recomend this project unless you are a very experienced knitter and even then, I warn you that the honeycomb diamond its really hard and exhausting. At least it has been for me.

Este proyecto me tiene agotada. No lo recomiendo a menos que sea una tejedora con mucha experiencia y aún así les advierto que es un dolor completar este diamante del centro. De hecho ya noté un error pero no lo voy a arreglar! Así que se quede de porsí casi ni se nota.

Rebecca Design No 9 FRUSTRATION

OK, I have to admit that this diamond honeycomb pattern has been a little bit frustrating. As you can see in the picture, I did something weird there in that row and it does not look right. I have decided to rip it and start the whole diamond all over again. This will be the fourth time. This design is hard because there is a lot of tension in the stitches and I am using a cotton-silk yarn which has almost no elasticity. I bet this will be easier if I were doing it with the GGH Bali yarn because it has acrylic in it and I am sure it is more elastic than this. Here is a picture of what I have so far, before ripping it:

I have repeatet it 3 times with no sucess. So I am going to start the whole thing all over again. By the way I went to the Rebecca website to make sure there were no corrections to this pattern and sure enough there was a correction on the diamond graphic because it has more rows than the amount of rows shown in the magazine. Aquí pueden ver el error en el frente de la blusa de Rebecca. Ya lo he desecho 3 veces y nada que me sale bien. Hoy voy a hacer el último intento. Lo voy a deshacer desde el principio y empezar denuevo. Había una corrección en el patrón del gráfico del diamante en el website de Rebecca pero no es por ese error que me está saliendo mal. Estoy un poco frustrada con este proyecto . A veces me dan ganas de tirarlo por allá por una esquina, pero ya lo quiero terminar para poder empezar otra cosa.

Contamination season is on!

It is hard to believe but it is 88 degrees already here in Bakersfield, California. No spring this year. We went from Winter to Summer. With the heat comes the UNHEALTHY LEVELS of contamination in what it is the worst air in the United States. Yes! that is number one we are not very proud of. When the air gets like this my allergies go absolutely CRAZY, all of my face but specially my nose itches like crazy and I get really sleepy and tired. It is almost unbearable because I don't function. All that just to say that the knitting has been very unproductive this weekend as I was feeling so bad. I did made some progress with my sock but I ended up ripping it all the way because it is turning out too big for me. The weird thing is that I surprisingly got the right gauge, so I guess my problem is just that my foot is narrower than Wendy's LOL. To correct this problem I will probably start all over again casting on less stitches this time. I have to admit that I am little upset, but it is not the first time that I frog and start all over again, that is better than ending up with a final product that you are not satisfied with. Especially when you are using expensive materials.

Parece mentira pero el calor aqui ya alcanzado los 88 grados. Este ano no tuvimos primavera, fuimos de invierno a verano directamente. Con el calor se elevan los niveles de contaminacion que desafortunadamente son los mas altos de la Nacion. Con la contaminacion me empeora la alergia de una forma terrible y la cara me pica terriblemente pero sobre todo la nariz. Tambien me da sueno y fatiga y no quiero hacer nada y me pongo de mal humor... Por eso este fin de semana casi no teji y tuve que deshacer la media que habia comenzado porque aunque me estaba dando el tamano correcto de puntada aun asi me estaba quedando grande. Asi que la deshice y voy a empezar denuevo con menos puntadas. Me dio un poco de lastima hacerlo pero es mejor eso que terminar con un producto final que no me satisface, especialmente si el material que use es caro como en este caso.

Sock Knitting

Here is the sock that I started. I am using the pattern "Generic Toe Up sock" by Wendy Jonhson. You can find it as a free download in her website www.wendyknits.net. It is in there somewhere. I am using yarn from JOJOLAND it has some cashmere in it and it is varigated in pastel colors. I love it! However, the needles I am using are really slowing me down. I hate them. They are plastic double pointed but the material is very fragil and it bends. I am expecting some new needles that I order and just can wait to switch to wood. I am trying to keep this project for outside and continue working in my Rebecca blouse when I am at home.

Estas son las medias que comenzé. Estoy usando el patrón generico de Wendy que se puede bajar gratis de su website www.wendyknits.net. Este es mi proyecto para afuera de la casa y sigo con la blusa de Rebecca para cuando estoy en la casa. La lana me encanta porque tiene colores pastel y contiene cashmere que es una fibra muy suave y lujosa. Lo que me esta matando son las agujas porque son plásticas y se doblan demasiado. Ya compré otras por el internet y estoy deseando recibirlas para cambiar a agujas de madera.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Happy Saint Patricks Day to all!
Mu husband last name is Irish so we care a big deal about Saint Patrick's Day. It is great that we can celebrate the Irish heritage in this country.




Hoy es el día de San Patricio. Es una tradición irlandesa. El apellido de James es irlandés y por eso nos gusta celebrarlo. La gente se viste de verde y usa el símbolo del trébol en camisetas que dicen "amo a Irlanda" y cosas por el estilo. Hoy fue un día divertido. En la escuela de Rachel juegaron a encontrar duendes y voltear cosas al revés. También bailan al estilo irlandés.

Rebecca Blouse

After I got another Rebecca No. 29 in the mail, I found my old Rebecca magazine in the trunk of my car. Darn! Now I have two of them, so I am going to have to sell one on Ebay. Oh well, the important thing is that I was able to continue and today I finished the back of the blouse. I am happy because this is project is going fast. It is already warming up here and I will love to wear this blouse soon.


Here is an update on my foot injury due to pedicure as well. It has been a week and it has healed but you can still see the cut. I went to the salon and got all of my money back. The lady didn't want to give me my money back at first but after a while agreed to do so. I still wonder if I will ever get sick from this insident but I keep getting to the conclusion that I have to trust God.


Ya recibí la revista de Rebecca que tuve que volver a comprar y claro ese mismo día (como tiene que ser) encontré mi revista vieja en la cajuela de mi carro. Qué cólera! En fin no me queda mas que vender la copia extra en Ebay. Aquí pueden ver como ya terminé la espalda de mi blusa. Estoy contenta porque este proyecto va muy rápido y aquí ya comenzó a hacer mucho calor así que necesito cosas más de verano como esta.

También hay una foto de mi pie, como pueden ver ya se va sanando después del episodio del pedicure después de una semana. Todavía me preocupa haber contraído alguna enfermedad pero he llegado a la conclusion de que debo confiar en Dios. Al menos fuí donde la chinita y me devolvió mi dinero y eso me hizo sentir un poco mejor.

Pedicure anyone ??

Last year my husband gave me a certificate for a pedicure, a manicure, a facial and a full body massage. For must people this sounds great right? Not for me, I always have been afraid of pedicures and manicures. You can get the most horrible deseases from contaminated tools including HIV. I put it off for as long as possible but today, I decided to use it, after what? 4 months? And yes! lucky me the lady pinch me with the sissor clipper and made me bleed! Why me? Because I hate pedicures! and this is exactly why. So, if I die in about 12 months from now from a misterious desease, you guys will know why...
I will never do it again as I don't think it is worth it to take such big risk just to make your feet look pretty when I can do it myself at home.
El año pasado mi esposito me regaló para mi cumpleaños un certificado de regalo para un pedicure, manicure, facial y masaje. Suena ideal verdad? No para mí, el masaje sí, pero el pedicure y manicure nunca me han interesado. Siempre le he tenido mucho miedo a contagiarme de algo. Para mi mala suerte la señora me cortó en la cutícula y me sacó sangre! Por qué a mí? Pensé. Muy simple, porque yo odio los pedicures. Así que si acaso me muero en como 12 meses de una enfermedad extraña ya saben lo que realmente pasó...Así que nunca más lo vuelvo a hacer. Simplemente no vale la pena correr ese riesgo solo para tener dedos del pie que se vean bonitos. Al cabo que yo misma lo puedo hacer en mi casa sin correr ese tipo de peligros...

Sassy stripes socks!

I am sorry to tell you this but I went to the movies and lost my Rebecca magazine. So my blouse from Rebecca is in stand-by until I get another copy from E-Bay. My other project the Victoriana Lace Blouse is also on hold because I had to order smaller needles since the ones I had were not giving me the right gauge. In desperation... I graved this Moda Dea Sassy Stripes yarn that I had in my stash and made a pair of socks for Rachel. The pattern was a free pattern from Michale's for Wool-Easy sport weight socks. The socks came out perfect! So perfect that it gave me the confidence to start making socks. Wendy ( www.wendyknits.net) is also to blame for this sock fever, but hey she is right! socks are easy to carry around and they offer instant gratification! This pair took me only 4 days. By the way the picture in the right is not Rachel being cold, its actually her cuddling on her new socks...

Me da mucha pena admitirlo pero fui al cine con mi marido el viernes pasado y perdí mi revista de Rebecca. A quién se le ocurre llevar el tejido al cine ? Solo a mí! Bueno el caso es que tuve que ordenar otra copia de Ebay y tuve que dejar ese proyecto por ahora. Mi otro proyecto el de la blusa Victoriana también esta parado debido a que tuve que ordenar agujas mas pequeñas ya que las que estaba usando no me estaban dando el tamaño adecuado de puntada. Así que ya desesperada porque no tenía nada para tejer, agarré una lana que tenía guardada de Moda Dea llamada Sassy Stripes y le tejí a Rachel un par de medias. Quedaron perfectas! Use un patrón de Michale's para unas medias hechas con Wool-Easy sport weight. De hecho quedaron tan bien que me dio más confianza en mí misma para hacer medias. Hace como año y medio hice mi primer par pero me quedaron bastante deformes las pobres... sin embargo mi pobre esposito así se las pone... tanto es el amor, pero después de ese semi-fracaso colge las medias (como quien dice) por todo este tiempo. Ahora quedé tan feliz con el resultado de estas medias que me compré el material para hacerme unas para mí aunque con lana mas finita para usar con zapatillas. Hace tiempo que quería hacer medias ya que Wendy de www.wendyknits.net me inspira a tejer medias ya que ella tiene razón en que es un proyecto muy portatil y ofrece gratificación instantánea ya que se terminan bastante rápido. Por cierto que la foto en la derecha no es que Rachel tenga frío sino que se está acurrucando en sus nuevas medias!
